A **hydrocele** is a condition where fluid builds up in the sac surrounding the testicle, causing scrotal swelling. It’s common in newborns but can affect adults due to injury, infection, or age-related changes. Symptoms include painless swelling, heaviness, and an enlarged scrotum. In infants, hydroceles often resolve on their own by age 1. For adults, treatment options include observation, needle aspiration to drain fluid, or surgery (hydrocelectomy) if the hydrocele is large, persistent, or painful. Although generally not harmful, it’s important to seek medical advice if symptoms occur to rule out other conditions.
