Appendicitis
Swollen Appendix

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix, a small pouch attached to the large intestine. It usually begins with pain around the belly button, which moves to the lower right side of the abdomen. Other common symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. It can also cause constipation or diarrhea. The condition is often caused by an obstruction in the appendix, such as a buildup of stool, a foreign body, or infection. If untreated, the appendix can burst, leading to severe complications like peritonitis. Treatment typically involves surgical removal of the appendix, called an appendectomy. Antibiotics are given to treat infection. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to avoid complications. If you suspect appendicitis, seek immediate medical attention.
