What is Gall stone disease?

Stone formation within gall bladder is called cholelithiasis

Why gall stone is formed?

Actual cause of stone formation is unknown. It is a multi factorial issues, no single factor is responsible for gall stone formation. Some factors are bellow

a. High cholesterol in bile or low bile acid formation in bile

b. Age >40 years

c. Female are more common than male

d. Pregnancy

e. Infection of bile

f. some blood disorder like thalassaemia and sickle cell anaemia etc

What are the symptoms of gall stone/ How do you know you are suffering from gall stone disease?

a. Pain in your abdomen mostly in the upper abdomen

b. Nausea/ vomiting

c. Upper abdominal discomfort that occur more after fatty diet

What are the investigations to confirm the gall stone disease?

Ultrasound scan of your abdomen that can make confirmation of gall stone in most patient.

Is there any medical treatment of gall stone disease?

Most patient require surgical treatment/ operation for gall stone disease. In rare circumstances we suggest medical treatment

Is there any risk if any one does’t want to go for surgery for gall stone disease?

Yes, there are many risk if a person having gall stone and does’t go for operation like infection of gall bladder, pus formation( empyema of gall bladder), distension of gall bladder by mucus( mucocele formation), Jaundice formation, pancreatitis( infection of pancreas) and in long term cancer may form.
